What are we learning this Summer term?

Maths: Geometry; Measurement; Fractions; Statistics; SATs (Year 6); Consolidation

English: We are reading ‘Twitch’ by M.G. Leonard as our Reading for Pleasure and studying Scott of the Antarctic so as to learn about Scott, the Antarctic and how to write effective diary entries. We will also study Rudyard Kiplings poem, ‘If’ and write our own ‘If’ poem in the style of Kipling.

Science: Properties and changes of materials is our science topic for the whole term.

RE:Why is the Torah so important to the Jewish people?’ and ‘How does faith help people when life gets hard?’ are our two interesting subjects for RE with a trip into Oxford to visit the Oxford Jewish Centre and synagogue.

History: Out topic this summer term is local history. We will learn more about Edward Wilson, from Cheltenham, who travelled with Robert Scott to the Antarctic.

Geography: We will be learning about the human and physical geography of the Cotswolds and compare it with the human and physical geography of Antarctica.

PE: The children will be honing their athletic skills and playing dodgeball and continuing with cricket.

Art: Drawing: we will all be completing a 6-week drawing journey which will culminate in putting those skills into drawing a scene in the style of L.S Lowry’s painting ‘Stow Market Square’ 1947.

DT: Cooking: The children will learn more about their ‘carbon footprint’ and the importance of food for good health and positive well-being. They will create their own menu and prepre a meal to be shared at the end of term.

Music: Freedom to Improvise and Farewell Tour are the themes for learning about specific musical concepts and theory.

PSHCE: Growing and Changing and Me and my Relationships are our topics this term.
